How It All Started

My name is Cannon Roberson, and I established CRSkullCleaning in 2022 in Indianola, IA. Growing up hunting and fishing, I quickly found a love for the outdoors. However, I soon realized they were pricey hobbies to be a part of and to save my trophy animals, I had to spend hundreds of dollars. It would take several months to get my trophy animal back, and to top it all off; some didn't meet my expectations. After thinking about doing my taxidermy, I decided to try it and fell in love with it. Now, not only do I do taxidermy for myself, but for others as well! As a hunter, I know the top three things that would determine my choice of taxidermist: low prices, a fast turnaround time, and a high-quality skull. With that in mind, I wanted to provide a service that gave just that, and in return, CRSkullCleaning was born.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose CRSkullCleaning?

CRSkullCleaning uses dermestid beetles which leave the customer with a high quality white skull in a short amount of time.

What is Caping?

Caping is the process in which the animal hide is removed from the skull of an animal.

What method of taxidermy does CRSkullCleaning use?

CRSkullcleaning uses dermestid beetles over other methods such as boiling and burying for many reasons. The colonies I have are fast and efficient. Burying a head can take years to completely remove all the tissue from a skull while dermestid beetles can finish a head in merely a couple days. As for boiling, it can lead to a weakened bone structure and can result in loosened teeth. Dermestid beetles strictly eat away at the tissue and membrane that is left on the skull after caping only.

How fast will I get my head back?

Unless backed up more than normal, a customer on average can expect to have their head back in as short as three months.

What type of beetles do you use to clean skulls?

CRSkullCleaning uses dermestid meat eating beetles to quickly strip away excess tissue on your head leaving behind a high quality skull!
